The Pull of Gravity
On Submission

Iari Lenerian wanted to help make the galaxy a better place. He was supposed to be a small cog in a big machine—an informant posing as a palace guard, that’s it. He didn’t mean to attract the Emperor’s attention, didn’t mean to gain his trust. And he didn’t mean to fall in love.

The rebellion that recruited him is going forward as planned. Iari is the only person who can get close to the Emperor—and the only mindfighter strong enough to challenge him. Iari still wants to see his impoverished homeworld free of Imperial exploitation, but he’s not ready to kill the man he loves. With the galaxy falling into civil war around him, he must decide whether fighting for his ideals is worth becoming a villain himself.

Penumbra
Second Draft

The underground town of Venderstadt has been cut off. Every ship that ventures up the river drifts back full of corpses. The only option left is traveling by foot through the labyrinth of tunnels that connects the city-caverns.

Felix Romberg is the only tunnel guide left in town, and he crossed his name off the registry a year ago. He hasn’t dared set foot in the tunnels since nearly losing his life to the shadowy creatures that live there. Between his fear of the dark and grief for a husband presumed dead in a distant fire, he’s in no state to guide anyone. But when a deaf sensitive implores his help as her escort, it’s hard to decline when “no” means starving with the rest of Venderstadt.

Two cities away, Felix’s husband Hans is barred from teaching after accidentally setting half a town on fire in an attempt to scry Felix’s whereabouts. Convinced Felix died in the tunnels, he has little left to live for. So when he’s taken hostage during a raid on a mushroom farm, Hans tries to sacrifice himself to save the other captives—only to discover his captor had no choice, and an unknown enemy is using sensitives to control creatures in the tunnel, with magic that could disrupt the entire cavern ecosystem.
